temporary eye lash extensions

Sometimes, don't you just wish you had long, luxurious eyelashes?  There are a few options these days for extending them, getting them to grow or thickening what you already have.  I want to tell you about something non-committal but definitely worth checking out if you occasionally wish you had longer lashes. However, if you were wanting them more permanent, that's an option too. This is NOT what you have been hearing about these days. This is NOT the little hairs individually placed on the lash line and in between each eye lash. Although a great service, it is not for everyone as cost and maintenance is high; it's truly a luxury service. The Service I am referring to is Individual Eyelash clusters applied at the base of your own eye, on top of lashes, not in between. The glue used is a temporary-semi permanent style. With care, eyelashes can stay on for up to 2 weeks. Or if you prefer, one evening.  Removal is real easy. Just use an oil based eye make up remover. If you want to keep them longer, use care to remove your eye make up but do not remove the eye lashes.

It is quite possible to NOT need any mascara with a full set applied. However, if you have lighter lashes, you may see a noticeable difference in color from your lashes to the ones applied.
These are also great for just filling in between your own lashes. Perhaps you don't need a full set, double set or even a partial. Perhaps you like just a few added in to make your own look a little fuller. If you have spaces in between your lashes that you want filled in, this is for you.

As a professional, application is quick and easy; in and out of my chair in less than 15 minutes. I can do a full line or partial. I can give you natural looking or "wow, look at her eyelashes!".  But keep in mind, it is virtually undetectable. Your gal pals will notice but you won't look like you have one of those awful strip lashes applied. They always seem to loosen on one end, don't they? There's no confidence or security in those strip lashes.

Someone needs to come up with something better. Oh! They did! Individual Eyelash Clusters!
This is also something you can definitely do on your own. They are sold at almost any beauty type of retail store. The glue is sold nearby. However, it does take practice to do your own. So, don't try the evening you need to; practice a few times a few days in advance.

Please take a look at my website. 99% of the gals in the Bridal and Model Gallery have on Individual Eyelash clusters http://www.pamperryhair.com/

You Tube!

I guess I jumped on the band wagon of doing You Tube Tutorials. On Halloween Day, My friend Kristen and I posted our first one. I did a Halloween Makeup look meanwhile she set up the camera, organized the settings for it and also she pretty much walked me through the editing. It came out better than I expected!
To keep it looking as porfessional as I can, I purchased two "Constant lights" that use flourescent bulbs. I did a practice run with another video that I am currently working on and I used the lights. I am currently learning an editing program called Sony Vegas Movie Studio 11.  There are learning curves to anything you learn, so I am going through the program step-by-step. And Thank the Lord for You Tube because that's also where I am learning tips and tricks for this program. I don't want to learn anything elaborate, I just want to produce a nice video that is clear and understandable.
For my videos, I've decided that it is best if I do "voice over" so that it is possible to shorten videos; some videos are just not necessary to be as long as originally taped, I believe.,
So, I am off to absorb myself into something new because that's How I Roll...

Wedding Pro's Luncheon in Morrisville

I love to network and meet others who show simliar interest. In case you didn't know this about me, I find many interests and pursue them. Of course, more than 17 years ago that interest was Hair Design, so I always network for that. However, over the years I've been involved in Photography, window treatments, upholstery, sewing, painting, faux painting, Rotary Club and Toastmasters International to enhance my public speaking skills.
Although I've done Wedding Hair for many, many years, I am just recently marketing and advertising on the web for WEdding Hair and Make up in the Raleigh/Durham/Cary area.  So, it would only make sense to then get involved with Wedding Professionals to Network as well. https://www.facebook.com/pam.perry3#!/PerfectWeddingGuideNC
If you have any interest in networking with other Wedding Pro's, check them out. Perfect Wedding Guide NC.
Off to my luncheon!

Fashion Make Up and Hair Cary

Doing beauty makeup is so much fun. Taking a gal who is going to a special affair, be it prom, wedding or gala, and transformer her into a "Belle" is so exciting and gratifying.  But doing fashion make up and hair is exceptionally gratifying. Why? Because quite frankly you just don't get to do it every time.  Recently I got to cover over the models eyebrows  and add blue polka dot eyelashes to that area.  Not only that, the hairstyle was fabulous. I curled the hair with a 1/4" curling iron, teased and add "padding" to help the hairstyle form.  What a wonderful time working on this look. I sure do hope another "fashion hair and makeup" look comes along soon. check out more pix at http://www.pamperryhair.com/

Wedding Hair and Make up Raleigh

Yowzers!! 2 new bridal shoots under my belt.  The first gal wanted a side swept bun she found in a magazine. Lovely!!  Her hair was nearly the perfect length but it had layers. That generally means there will be loose hairs in the bun that need to be smoothed down. There is a great trick: Invisible hair nets!!  If you ever danced or had a little dancer in your family you know what those hair nets can do for the ease of making a bun. Besides making buns, they are great for looping hair around and making designs for super hair do's!!

Please visit my site for more info, pricing and more pictures to view. http://www.pamperryhair.com/

Asymmetrical Wedding Updo
Airbrush makeup with lashes
The make up was airbrushed on and she loved, loved, loved the coverage. This gal loves "full coverage" foundation application and was quite please with how well it looked. After applying foundation, I applied the blush and we moved on to the eyes! Her choice? Smokey!!  We used great pinks, light and dark bronzes and even used a teensy bit of black for the outer corner. After applying individual eyelashes, we moved on to the mascara. But let me share with you that this gal was quite pleased with the lashes and how well they go on and quickly I applied them. Most gals have had strip lashes put on, but I personally avoid them at all costs for many reasons but especially for poor adhesion. Maybe it's just me but I don't' have great luck. Besides, I can put on as many or as few lashes as I want.  And I love this!!
The other bridal look was more on the vintage side.  The make up application was lovely with this gal choosing a greenish blend for her eye make up. Her blue eyes really stood out.  We finished up the look with eyelashes and a soft pearl like shell colored lipstick with a pearly gloss on top.

Lovely!

Corn Row braiding

Years ago, in beauty school, we learned how to corn row hair among many other things. But honestly, corn rowing hair has never been asked of me, so I never honed that skill. Welll, with a some encouragement from a friend, I am learning so that I can sew in hair tracks for upcoming projects I am working on but also in case I need to sew in hair for a client.
It's been a whole day of practicing and it's been tough. My fingers are not used to that small movement with fine detail. I'm going to keep practicing the actual cornrow braid. Once I get comfortable enough and fast enough, I'm going to start corn row braiding with adding loose extension hair. That will help soft fine hair be a little coarser to hold the braid longer.  After I learn to corn row well enough to put in rows for sewing in hair, that's the next thing I will learn and practice. Once corn rows are in, I'll sew the tracks in.
It's a fun project and I'm glad I was encouraged to learn.

Wedding Hair and Airbrush Make up Raleigh

Shorter length gal with added hair extensions
Please visit http://www.pamperryhair.com/ for more pictures and info
Today's shoot was awesome!! What made it awesome?  First of all, the weather was amazing so we shot outdoors. Was an easy, 1 light set up while the model held a reflector board. Secondly, a natural makeup look came out amazing with Airbrush application on the skin. It looks flawless and doll like; as if no make up is on at all.  The coverage is amazing. Since I use silicone based make up with the airbrush machine, it lasts through sweat, tears and the accidental spilled champagne toast! Thirdly, I showed off what using hair pieces in a shorter haired gal can do to give her a super duper updo!!   Not every gal has enough hair or long enough hair to pull off an updo or half up-half down style.  The only thing to do is get good quality human hair to add to the style!!

Airbrush makeup with added eyelashes.

Wedding Hair and Make Up Raleigh

fishtail braid bun
Since I am a hobby photographer, I like to post new photos as often as I can. So that  means I find reliable and appropriately aged models to showcase whatever ideas I have. This week after poking around on you tube, I found an sensational Hairstylist from Austrailia named: Sharon Blain. I love her ideas, her style, her creativity, so I set out to learn and do a few ideas on my mannequin first.  Since I already had a photoshoot set up for this saturday, I asked my lovely model Kristen if she would be up for doing 3 looks. She agreed and away we went with the ideas. After all the chatting, viewing the website with Sharon's work, and working out our ideas, we went to town.

a look from a bridal magazine

Incidentally, our third look was a gorgeous redhead from the bridal  hairdo magazine I have at the salon.
We got started at 1 and finished up the 3rd look by approximately 5pm. It was fun, quite a bit of work but worth it.  I attached 1 photo here but you can see more on my site.http://www.pamperryhair.com/

wedding pro's networking in Raleigh

Wednesday afternoon, September 28, 2011, I'll be attending The Triangle Weddin Guild luncheon. Apparently it will be the coolest type of meeting they have; speed networking!
I love to network. The opportunity to meet others is very exciting to me. Hearing about what other pro's do and how they do it is fascinating. Really. And if it a networking or meeting is at a country club or fancy restaurant, I'm even more excited. So, I think I'll be getting all the good stuff rolled in to one for this networking meeting.
My goals for this meeting is to 1. Meet as many friendly and outgoing women I can. 2. Find out about what these gals do and how they do it. 3. talk about myself briefly but succinctly enough to allow them opportunity to get to know me and what I do also.
I hope to post a follow up post about what actually happened at this networking opportunity.

Wedding show in Raleigh

I went to my first wedding show today hosted by Perfect Wedding Guide of Triangle Triad. It was at the Embassy Suites in Brier Creek.
The gal who runs things, Gail Galloway, was a gem to meet. She was open arms, as a self proclaimed hugger, who welcomed me into the venue. When she found out that I am myself engaged she encouraged me to wear the "Bride" sticker. Although I was flattered, I was really there just to meet other vendors and to look around at the venue. I would like to be a vendor at one of these shows soon so it was the perfect opportunity to see what was going on today.
Everyone was happy, relaxed, informative and very friendly. I learned so much about their businesses and what they offer in the wedding arena.
I enjoyed the time I spent there and I am very much looking forward to be a vendit myself.https://www.facebook.com/PerfectWeddingGuideNC

Wedding Hair and Makeup Networking in Raleigh

Wow! Was I impressed at the turn out for the Wedding Wire Networking group on Monday Sept 20, 2011. It was held at the Cobblestone in Downtown Raleigh. First of all, that location is very lovely, very quaint, very old town. Yes, it does have Cobblestone Roads. the inside was vast, open and inviting. The food was catered, the bar looked awesome and even wait staff walked around with samplings that were so tasty! (yes, i am too lazy to google how to spell hours douvers!)
The CMO, or at least that is what I heard him call himself, gave a talk on how marketing is growing through facebook, twitter and youtube. Also, how important it is to be accessible now through iphones, ipads and droid phones. I guess I am on it! Or Liz is, actually.
I met many other wedding professionals and chatted with a few. Yes, I love to chat. I hope to link up on facebook with them now.
There were many lovely people at this event. I can't wait to go to the next one!

Wedding Hair and Makeup On a Sunday in Cary

I really do enjoy what I do, so it wasn't too much to ask when a bride asked, "Can you do my hair and makeup for my bridal portraits on a sunday?". I said, "Sure!"
I'm glad I did. I got the opportunity to meet two great gals; the future bride and her maid of honor. We laughed, giggled, shot pix, sang to the radio all while getting her hair and makeup done. But that's how it should be, right? After all, there is stress, nerves can get twisted, worries and other negative things creep up and it shouldn't be!! It should be a fun experience. I know I had fun and by the laughs and giggles, seems we all did!

I can't wait to see the pictures. I'm sure her photographer did a wonderful job; she was going to the Matthews House here in Cary for the session. Check out the Matthews House if you haven't already. Its a super home with an old classy feel.www.pamperryhair.com

Wedding Hair and Make Up At the Cary studio, Raleigh Wedding

I'm always amazed at the wonderful people I get to meet while I'm working. Today I had some gals coming to get hair and make up done for a wedding. They were running behind but we worked it out. Anyone attending a wedding knows that time just runs, especially when you are responsible for so much more than getting your own stuff done. Folks are calling for rides, kids need to eat, someone forgot their pantyhose and all that needs to get taken care of as well as the hair and make up. But through all of that, my client handled it all very well. We got her hair and make up done, her mom's done and the 2 little gals got their curls done. All in record time, too!
It's funny how you get it all done in good time and with awesome results.
These gals were super happy and I feel like we all made new friends. My job is good in so many ways, so much more than just a hair do and make up application. It is always good to hear, "Wow!, I've had my hair and make up done before but this is the best ever!" I guess we all had a good ole time today.

Keratin Treatment News!

There are many exciting hair products out there these days but none is as exciting as the Kertain/Brazilian Smoothing Treatments! You may have heard them on the news, seen them in articles in fashion magazines and met women who have had them done. What is it? A non-chemical way to smooth frizzy, fuzzy hair. Depending on the strengths used, it may even straighten hair but it will always smooth the hair. Not only that but it also makes hair some what humidity reisistant! Yes, humidity resistant. That's the whole point. It seals in the hair, makes it smooth and shiny for as many as 4-6 months depending on how often you shampoo. And when you do shampoo, you must use the recommended shampoos so as to not "undo" the treatment.
It does take time, it does cost money but it sure is a life saver to many women who are tired of dealing with hair that frizzes up even after they take all the time to blow it dry and smooth. These gals are tired of it!!
Although it may not be for everyone and their pocket book, it is defenitely a hair smoothing treatment that gives great results for those who are willing.

If you think you are interested, send me an email. We can always set up a consultation, even if its just learn to more about the treatment.

Wedding Sites

Man! There is a lot to do when it comes to marketing oneself and business. One of the ways to Market is to join wedding websites as vendors. There are many to choose from. Some are free and some have a small fee. But, from what little I know, it's good to be part of these sites for many reasons. One of them is just to be available to brides who are browsing the web. The Second is to have "web exposure". That's a new term to me but I understand it. THe more sites you are on, the more "search engines" can pick up your information and try to put you at the top of your list of your category. The bigger the site, the bigger your chances are. I still don't really understand that completely, but I get the idea.
All Iknow is that PamPerryHair wants to be out there for Potential Brides to find me, see me work and have me as their Hairstylist and Make Up Artist for their big day.

wedding marketing fun?

Well, marketing is not my forte. No!, not at all. I really am quite creative, crafty and artsty so anything in that realm hurts my brain, believe it or not.
I have to hire the pro's to help me get to my goals of marketing to fruition. What are my goals? To be a well known and sought after Wedding Hair and Make up specialist in the triangle area. How do I plan to do that? Get my name out there, of course! That's where I need professional help. THere are so many ways to get my name out there, as I am coming to realize. There are press releases, google searches, yahoo searches, Search engine optimization techniques, blogging, etc.. Ugh! My brain hurts!
So, I'lll do the creative stuff like hair and make up and I'll depend upon my pro's to do the marketing~~
Glad everyone has a speciality and gift.

Wedding Hair fun!!

I love weddings!! Thankfully, I do get to attend at least 1 per year. Not only do I get to attend, I usually do at least the Bride's hair which means I'm there early watching the going's on. All the hustle, bustle, nerves, jokes, laughs and mimosas!!
Yesterdays wedding was no different. Lovely family, friends, jokes and plenty of mimosas were flowing. I had my roller skates on and was concentrating as I had 5 hairdo's to do and 2 make up applications including individual lashes.. I did manage to make the bride 5 minutes late, but I guess that would be 'fasionably' late in my book. No one seemed to mind; even the wedding planner was ok.
I do love being a part of it all. I really do. So many good memories over the years of clients and clients daughters/sons getting married. But at this point, I am ready to start branching out and getting more wedding hair and make up business. I have been contacting wedding planners, signing up for wedding websites and self promoting my online portfolio. I think I may even try to go to a wedding show here in Raleigh next year. Let's see how it goes!!

Airbrush Make Up Amazing

As you can well tell by now, I love to be excited about what I do in the Hair and Make Up Industry. I've been in love with make up all my life, so learning to apply it to others was natural. However, now, I see even more of an artistic bend with the airbrush style make up. I haven't gotten into doing eye makeup with it, but so far I know I love foundation, blush and highlighter. The application is smooth yet barbie like! What a pleasant surprise when I airbrushed my first face. I was astonished. Now it is not better than regular foundation application just different. Pleasantly different.
Airbrushing make up is in my tool belt now. I'm not sure if I will phase out regular foundation application but I can see I will defenitely phase in the airbrush!
Besides all the good things I can say about the look and finish of the skin, I can exclaim, "It takes so much less time"! Wow! It went fast and it looks perfect. I'm really very tickled by my new found love of airbrush make up. chek out more pix at http://www.pamperryhair.com/

Having Haircolor that makes you feel Wow!!

So, to further my blog about how hair color can make you feel, let's talk about how a hairstylist can accomplish that Wow!! feeling.
Highlights can add dimension around the face for lightness. When dealing with a client witih grey hair, this helps tremendously. It helps camoflage the grey, brings lightness around cheekbones and eyes and draws light away from the face so that wrinkles and blemishes are minimized.
Highlights with 2-3 colors make a blonde go pop! Variation always makes hair look fuller, thicker; a trick of the eye. Warmer colors make one feel bright, cheery, alive while neutral tones feel confident, powerful, strong, calm. Redder blondes are firey, exciting, alive! Mixing up colors can give a feeling of Wow! too.
And as long as I've been doing hair, I think it's so important that "bleach blondes" get a clear glaze from time to time, if not every time. It makes hair feel smooth, shiny and alive. It helps hair look thicker, feel richer, hold curl/style better. Bleach blondes always get "stripped" but nothing gets put back like a hair color blonde does. So, whether you get your highlights done by me or another colorist, request a clear glaze to seal your hair and give it radiance and shine! check out more of my work http://www.pamperryhair.com/

Hair Color; does it feel?

Do you ever wonder why women really color their hair? I don't know exactly, but I know it's partly because of how we feel when it's done. When we look in the mirror and see the beauty of it all, we love it! Is it the shine? Is it the depth, the lightness? What is it? I don't really know but I do know that getting hair color, makes you feel happy, alive, beautiful, sexy, powerful, smart, confident and like a woman!
I generally color my hair every 3-4 weeks. I love the shine. I use Keune hair color in the salon and on my own hair. Its a translucent violet based color that looks believable and natural. To keep the intergrity of my own fine hair, I try to limit pulling through my permanent hair color formula. So, I mix up a color to pull through from the semi line. THis gives pure deposit and shine. My color stays fresh for 3-4. All hair color has a natural exit to hair, fade if you will.  So using semi permanent doesn't mean its not as permanent as permanent. The major differences will be: Permanent Hair color uses developers/peroxides meant to lift Natural hair color and utilizes Ammonia to do so. Semi permanents have no ability to lighten natural hair color because they are made Ammonia free and the peroxide/developer is very low. So, if my hair has already been previously color with permanent hair color, my hair is ready to recieve that semi permanent hair color especially if it has been recently shampooed.  There is an old wives tale that color takes better on  dirty hair; It does not!!
(Hair should be free of styling products and recently shampooed for optimum color delivery whether using permanent and/or semi permanent hair colors.

changes?

I've been struggling with wanting a change. I get this way from time to time. Anyone who knows me long knows I have to have a new challenge, something exciting to try. I've done so many cool things, really I have. I've played pool semi-professionally, I've gardened to the point that I was a home garden tour, I've done education for http://www.Keune.com
I've recently acquired my State License to teach beauty school. I took up photography so that I could photograph models for my website. shoo. I do a lot, but I love it.
So what's next? hmmm. I'm working on it. I'll let you know as soon as I do!
psst! I hope to teach part time at the beauty school.

Prom Hair

It's funny when I tell fellow hairdressers, "I Love doing updo's", how they cringe and turn their nose up. Yes, they are intricate and can be difficult but I think they are so much fun. I Love to do Prom Hair and Make up! Call me crazy but I do. I dont' know if it's the giggling young girls with pictures of their dresses on their phones, or the excitement I share with them as they are describing their flowers or the happy surprise I get when they have many magazine ads of "the look they are looking for". Maybe it is all of the above, I don't know. But I love to do Prom Hair. I realize there aren't enough Prom Styles on my site, so I'm on the hunt for a few models. I put an ad out on craigslist looking for Prom age gals. I'm sure it will be fun and a "giggly" time!

airbrush make up

I love all things that have anything to do with beauty!! And I've been loving it a long time! I remember my first big make up job; I was making myself look like Boy George! He was so popular when I was 11 that I had to have his look. It wasn't uncommon for me to give myself hair cuts either! There wasn't a fingernail polish I didn't try and I think I was the only 11 year old with finger nail extensions. They looked good too! So, was it any surprise that I went to beauty school? It shouldn't have been, that's for sure.

I got in to a conversation with a peer the other day about "air brush" makeup. So, I thought to myself, "hey, I should know how to do that". so, here we go. I also would love to start uploading some videos of make up application, temporary individual eye lash extensions, and high glam looks. I will be applying to models, so you can see how it works out to do anothers and not just my own. I may do my own, but we'll see!!

summer time fun

It's been a while since I've blogged. I love to journal so I don't know how I neglected this blog. I haven't been doing any photo shoots. I decided to take the summer off for my other hobbies, like reading, cooking and relaxing! It was a crazy busy time with the previous photo shoots. I enjoyed them but they were a lot of work. I would love to do them again in the fall however, I will go back to my initial interest. I will do headshots with elaborate or glamorous make up and hair. I tried doing full body shots that mimicked magazine ads but I feel better pleased and satisfied with the headshots.
I think I need some new pictures of myself up on my website. So, I may get to working on that. I do have a tripod, lighting and a camera with a timer. I may give that a try. Self portraits with a camera phone.. not so fun!!
I am still loving my little private studio environment. I tend to be the type to keep to myself while working and I do get plenty of socialization from my clientele. My clients seem to love the private studio enviroment too. I may do a little redecorating in the. Some new curtains and pictures may be what gets changed, but it will feel different. I think I'm ready for florals and stripes.
